Cherry Bomb's Guest Appearance on Mellow Madness

As you may have read a few weeks back, Sara and Leah of Cherry Bomb did a guest spot on WRIR 97.3 FM's Sunday afternoon show, Mellow Madness hosted by Mike Murphy. We played a mix of ye-ye, garage, and freakbeat records and had quite a fine time doing so. The podcast is available at http://www.radio4all.net/files/mm7nseven@yahoo.com/1797-1-cherry_bomb_on_mm.mp3, and see our playlist here.

The Cherry Bomb Holiday Office Party got snowed out.

There's somewhere between 6 inches and a foot of snow in Richmond. Sadly, but wisely, we're not gonna be playing music at The Nile tonight. These are two of the songs I had hoped to work into my set. My aim was to play Simon Says by Pharoah Monche first and figure out how to transition to Babydoll by The Fratellis to end the set. Simon Says is one of my favorites of all time. Possibly Top 10. Babydoll was just released in 2009, but with time, may prove to be an all time favorite. Both of these give me a fit of the grins.

Sarah's Fall/Winter Mix

The snow just started falling in Richmond and it sounds like we're getting a lot of it!
My favorite part of snow storms: hibernating inside with movies, music and lots of blankets. Here is a soundtrack to play while watching the snow fall (I'm testing it out now and so far, so good.) Enjoy!

[2] here we go magic - fangala
[3] le loup - neahkahnie
[4] white antelope - wild mountain thyme
[5] eternal summers - lightswitch
[6] best coast - sun was high (so was i)
[7] forest fire - fortune teller
[8] wild beasts - all the king's men
[9] the diamond center - dos fridas
[10] woods - rain on radio
[11] phosphorescent - wolves
[12] the middle east - blood
[13] sharon van etten - it's not like
[14] ola podrida - donkey
[15] yo la tengo - nothing to hide

Sara's Pick of the Week

I love Billy Nicholls and I love this video!

If you like the orchestral pop/psych of the Beach Boys Pet Sounds, I'm almost positive you'll like the album Would You Believe, home to this song.

Word is that Billy Nicholls was originally hired by Andrew Loog Oldham as a staff writer for his label, Immediate Records. Oldham was so entranced by the Beach Boys' 1966 album, Pet Sounds, that he enlisted Nicholls to record a British response, which became this largely forgotten album. Would You Believe of course never achieved the Pet Sounds status Oldham wanted; after the label ran into financial difficulties, it was shelved after a promotional run of just 100 pressings.
The Small Faces' Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane provide backing vocals and instruments, as well as bass parts from John Paul Jones.

Here's your London Social Degree (ahem, LSD): we're going back to the Swinging Sixties!!!

Una Sull' Altra (a Licio Fulci movie)

Just picked up this soundtrack. Hubba hubba doesn't begin to do it justice. The music is by Riz Ortolani and this reissue LP on Dagored isn't just a sexy gatefold with a full color catalog of the label inserted in... there is a movie poster included too. Why aren't all reissues done this well? (And pressed on heavy wax too boot!)
